Kaspersky help for a Kaspersky noob?

April 1st, 2009 · 3 Comments

I just recently bought Kaspersky anti-virus and I have to say it is a bit different from what i'm used to (Norton). I installed the program and ran a full scan of my system. Kaspersky found many mal-ware, mostly in the form of files from quicktime, itunes, adobe. The detected page tells me these files have been detected, but have they also been deleted, or disinfected (if that means the same thing)?
I know that with Norton, whenever it found a problem, there would be an option for me to "fix" it. Does kaspersky have this? I see a disinfect all button at the bottom of the page, but this in a gray font and I can't click it.

any help would be much appreciated! thanks

dan

There are two issues there that you need to know. The first issue is when Kaspersky detects a threat, it automatically deal with the threat and it create a backup copy to which you are seeing that in 'Detected'. You don't need to do anything there as it has already been dealt with. If you go to 'Help' and then go to 'Index' and then go to 'Virus scan' expand that and click on 'Actions performed when a threat is detected' you will see as thus:

"When disinfecting or deleting an object, the application creates a backup copy in case the object needs to be restored, or an opportunity arises later to treat it."

"If you are working in the automatic mode, the application will automatically apply the action recommended by Kaspersky Lab's experts when a dangerous object is detected. For malware objects this action is Disinfect. Delete if disinfection is not possible, for suspicious objects - Skip."

The second issue is sorting out vulnerabilities, like Quicktime, iTunes, Adobe, and etc. You will need to sort those out by yourself. Have a look in the link down below to tell you how to do so.
