Kaspersky is the better out of the two hands down.
ESET smart securty is better than both of those though.
Check the anti-virus rankings on AV-Comparatives.

avast home edition is free and does the job well enough. http://avast.com

kaspersky would be the best option but i still think AVG free home edition is the best and its free.

Go for Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 it has a better detection rate than Norton.
