Kaspersky key - will it be checked on every update?

My friend is using Kaspersky anti virus in his computer, which is not connected to Internet. He has a key which is valid till 2010. If I use that key in my computer's Kaspersky installation which is connected to Internet, will this key be authenticated over internet? Will this happen every time when I update the virus definitions?

PS:- I am not going to use it anyway because it is illegal.
