Kaspersky virus scan question?

October 28th, 2009 · 5 Comments

Ok so during the 2 hour long scan, many windows popped up saying "vulnerability detected…..". And then when the scan was over, I was able to view the list of detected vulnerabilities, however, I was not able to delete any of them. When you right click, the option that says "quarantine" or "Delete" or whatever it says (sorry I cant remember the exact wording) is not highlighted as an option I can pick from. Why is this happening and how can I get these vulnerabilities removed from the computer?
I am using Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009.

Just Right Click on Any Vulnerability and Select Clear List.

      Click Yes for all Options

All is fine. Do not panic. First Kapersky is a paying software and one of the best. Whoever advises you to replace it with a free software is doing you a disservice. Second there has to be a button that says "quarantine" or "vault", other than "delete"; that’s the one you have to choose. It may also be that default settings are set to move those threats automatically to the vault without you having to do anything after a scan. But in any event, trust that as an industry leader, Kapersky is not letting you down. To convince yourself, do an internet search with "Kapersky review" and read what professionals say about it.

read what the vulnerabilities are -java scrip-flash player-pdf reader etc, then go to their web sites and update the programs, you can delete kasperskys detected file by right ckicking on detected items- if your running windows make sure your windows update is running and set for automatic-vulnerabilities are not malware, their programs that are outdated and have security risks

Vulnerabilities are security holes or weak points in your operating system (Windows?) and your other installed software. A vulnerability is NOT a virus or other computer malware.

You cannot delete a vulnerability, you can only fix or "patch" it.

Vulnerabilities are basically flaws in software that allow malware (viruses, spyware, worms, etc) to infect a computer.

An analogy would be if a large hole developed in the side of your house, you house would be vulnerable to infestation by vermin until the hole was patched. Same idea with your computer software

Once a vulnerability is detected in a software, it should be "patched" by a critical update, ASAP.

Windows and Internet Explorer in particular are filed with these security holes or vulnerabilities. This is why it is of up-most importance to always keep Windows 100% percent updated and patched. Turning "on", Automatic Updates is the easy way to do this.

If you don’t have Automatic Updates turned on, be sure and get them manually. In Internet Explorer go to Tools > Windows Updates. Check for new ones often. At least monthly.

Adobe Flashplayer and Adobe Reader are two other softwares that have had multiple securirt vulnerabilities. They constantly need updating.

It is as equally important to keep all your software updated and patched as it is to run a good anti-virus.

An un-updated and un-patched computer is a malware magnet! This is what KAV is alerting you to….you haven’t kept your machine fully updated! KAV is excellent in this respect, one of the reasons it is a top anti-virus solution.

Next time you scan with your KAV, you need to write down exactly what these vulnerabilities are. Kaspersky cannot update un-patched software for the end-user, that is the responsibility of the user themself.
