Ok so I've downloaded Limewire but every time a try to open it it says "Limewire was unable to instilize and start. This is usually due to a Firewall program blocking Limewire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine Please allow Limewire access to the internet and restart Limewire." I have checked all the firewall/security programs on PC, uninstalled and reinstalled Limewire, and checked a dozen of other similar postings about this. Nothing has helped. Is there anything I can do? Please please please help!!!! Oh and I have Windows 2003.

I'm not positive that windows 2003 has a firewall, but look for it here:
First go to start>control panel>windows firewall>tab to exceptions>click add program>select limewire save and close. Restart limewire
Is is working? If not, then;
You are using a router with a hardware firewall.
UpNP will do the routers port forwarding for you. If it is available on your router you need to turn it on to use anykind of p2p software.
In limewire go to tools>options>advanced>firewall configuration>use upnp>apply.
Try to connect and see if it works. If not:
You will need to access your router to turn on upnp.
open your internet browser and type in your routers IP address, it is usually something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 If you don't know how to access your router, read the manufacurers instructions or call their helpline
Once you have access to the router, somewhere in the options you will find the option to turn on UpNP. Turn it on.
Restart the router and restart limewire and then try to connect.
Good Luck!

Go to this site http://wiki.limewire.org/index.php?title=User_Cant_Connect#Programs_Known_To_Potentially_Block_LimeWire
Also find out if only changing the port number limewire is using solves your problems.

I just got mine to work again after MONTHS, it was a Linksys router setting, I went to 192.168.1.1/Filters.asp like the guy above suggested, I didn’t see anything about UpNP but I noticed that under the Access Restrictions tab, the box for Blocked Services was checked for “All services,” I unchecked it and the brick wall disappeared. Now to see if I get a virus …

having the same problem with limewire 4.12.3 pro, using windows vista, have the port numbers mapped in my symantec firewall, but still no cigar. cant figure this out, before i rebult the laptop had no problems withlime using all the same settings. strange!!!
one comment for K-IN-SC Antivirus prevents virus’s Firewalls are not there to stop virus’ (although some deep scan packets, although i doubt this is the case with a router) firewalls are designed to stop hackers from gaining access to your hardware. virus’ do disable some software firewalls but hardware ones are better. (they just cause a bit of a headache sometimes!!!) hope u all managed to find a fix though.
Cheers.
