I want to get a macbook because its cheap but I dont think it comes with a benifit of having a Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard. Should I get macbook pro instead I need it for mainly educational purpose. Is it worth it to spend the extra thousand dollars on a macbook pro? What should I do?

go to the Apple website or your nearest store and speak with a clerk- they are really helpful
they will base their suggestions on what you will be using the laptop for

Macbook's DO come with Leopard.
Do not get a macbook pro if you are just using it for school (unless you're doing multimedia).
Get a macbook, but an upgraded version (either the black one, or the second and better white one). Macbooks are lighter and thinner than macbook pros, and also have better battery life.
The MAIN difference between the macbook pro and macbook is the graphics card

The standard Macbook seems more than suitable for your uses, a Macbook Pro will be overkill. I wouldn't recommend the cheapest Macbook as it only has a combo drive, this means it can read CDs and DVDs but only write to CDs and this is behind the curve in 2008. The mid range Macbook in its off the shelf configuration should be fine for you. The black, high end Macbook costs £60 more than the white one even if you spec the white one up to be the same. For this reason, only go for the black one if you're sure you couldn't live without its black finish.
All new Macs contain Intel processors, this means they can take advantage of all Leopard's features. This means you have no worries about not being able to run Leopard properly. Also, all of the new Macs are very powerful, they should be able to run OS X 10.6 (snow Leopard) and beyond with ease. There will only be one regret you'll have about buying a Mac; they last for so long, it's difficult to justify buying anew one!
