After trying to uninstall Monday night via the uninstall feature, I haven’t been able to get online since.
So then I manually uninstalled Zonealarm in safe mode and I still can’t access the internet (via wireless or ethernet), and Windows Security Center is saying that ZoneAlarm firewall is still ON. Any suggestions?
I’m on another computer now because I can’t get online with that laptop.
No idea what else I can do!
Thanks

To properly uninstall a firewall (and anti-virus) you first must disable the program and then uninstall. If you didn’t disable ZoneAlarm first and began with the uninstall, then your problem is that there are still live and active files left behind so Windows is still recognizing ZoneAlarm as your systems firewall.
What you must do now is go into your task manager (right click on taskbar) and end the process for ZoneAlarm and apply. Then go into search and search all files and folders that are related to ZoneAlarm and delete them all.
As far as getting back on the internet, you’ll probably have to reinstall the software.

If you haven’t already, restart your computer. Then if still not fixed, see if the Zone Alarm is still in your programs. Try uninstalling the traditional way in the Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs. If still not working, call Zone Alarm. They support their product and are willing to assist you with this. It may just not be uninstalling properly and firewalls can create an issue with internet connection…
Generally, you can tell if its a firewall or other computer related issue if you have a valid IP address but still cannot connect.
Also, it appears Zone Alarm has specific uninstall instructions. See below.

I had the same problem. After uninstalling ZoneAlarm through Control Panel remove programs I wasn’t able to access the internet. The only way to get access back was to go to a known good restore point, one from the day before I tried to uninstall ZA and restore my computer.
This brought the computer back to the configuration with ZA installed, but at least I can access the internet. If someone knows how to remove ZA but not lose access to the internet I would be interested in learning how. Note: I am running Vista Home Premium.
