I have mcafee anti virus. I know that it can’t block the conficker virus (the scary one that we were all worried about in april)..Anyway, I got onto my computer just now, and my mcafee was completely changed. Everything that I was protected with was suddenly not protected, and this subscription is brand new. Secondly, I double check to see if my firewall is up, because I know that if I have the conficker virus, it will change it to not be up, and all of a sudden it was changed to not be up. I am very worried. If I do have a virus, how will I know? What precautions should I take so my information is not sent to the ‘mother’ thing or whatever? Please help me.

If the only worry out there was conficker, then you would not have much to worry about. There are thousands of different malware and many of them are nasty. If you use P2P file sharing, then you could have a very nasty infection, you may also just be having a problem with mcafee. You need to start some where, so go to download.com and get Malwarebytes anti-malware. Download, install, update and then run a scan. See if you have something nasty on there. Also you can go to Mcafee support and check and see if there is a issue with your version of Mcafee. Sometimes a update to your anti-virus program will cause problems and you can check there and see if any one else is having issues like yours.

If you have something in the background changing the settings on your computer, you more than likely have a virus.
A lot of the infections out now, disable anti-virus programs, firewall programs, and security settings on different files that could help you find these infections.
What you need to do is to get all infections complete cleaned off your system. If you know has current knowledge in removing infections, you should get them to look at, and clean your computer.
There are several different companies and techs that offer remote cleaning of computer infections, myself included, that can usually get your PC cleaned up.
Whatever you do, just make sure that you computer is cleaned first, and then install or re-install you anti virus programs, if necessary.
