May 3rd, 2008 · 5 Comments

so i put a virused flash into my computer and it started acting very weired after that… so i had this message from mcafee popping up every second and it says "the file D:\msdownld.tmp\msdownld.tmp…. was infected by the Generic Malware.a trojan and has been deleted to complete the Clean process." so i ran the mcafee scan and it said my computar was clean and no virus.. but the message kept on poping again every second and it literaly drove me insane, so i downloaded spyware doctor and ran scan, it discovered some stuff but i cleaned them.. but the message still pops up and i dont know if the virus is still there or whats wrong with mcafee…. pls help cause im pulling my hair out at the moment, and pls dont say take it to a pro. beacause i just cant….i appreciate ur help..thx

Disconnect from the internet then uninstall you McAfee using add/remove in the control panel and then reinstall it.

Download and run ad-aware from download.com

Mcafee is a terrible anti virus, I've seen people who had it and all it does is give them trouble and I usually have to fix their problems. The best thing to do is get rid or that awful program and go download avast or avg anti virus.

The best thing to do is uninstall McAfee and install AVG free. I had a virus or Trojan House the other day and used Spybot and Adaware to try and remove it, but both failed. Then I used AVG free and it was gone to a Virus Vault.

There are 3 anti-virus programs you should never install or use: AVG, Norton and McAfee.

I use this free combination of software:
Avira: http://www.free-av.com/ (if you don't have anti-virus, or if you have Norton or AVG replace it with this)
Spyware Terminator (turn off web security guard): http://www.spywareterminator.com/
      Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/ (use immunise feature)
      Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/
Comodo: http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/ (turn off defense+ to see fewer alerts)

And I use firefox: http://www.firefox.com/ ; get the AdBlock extension (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 ) and whatever other useful extensions like Download Statusbar you want.

Hello, although McAfee is a great anti-virus, it will not be able to catch and stop everything. Your best choice is to uninstall McAfee for now and install another anti-virus. Sign up for a free trial of Kaspersky Internet Security at http://usa.kaspersky.com/trials/home-users/internet-security-7/
and download, install, and update it. On the full scan option, put the heuristics to high and turn the "scan all files option on" instead of the "scan new and changed files only" option. Turn off your system restore and boot into safe mode before doing the full scan. After you are done scanning, delete everything that Kaspersky finds, and reboot when necessary. Then, after you are done that, download SuperAntiSpyware at

      http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html
Install it and manually update it. Do a full scan of your computer and delete everything that the program sees as a threat. Keep Kaspersky until the 30 day trial expires and if you like it, you can purchase a license for it or reinstall McAfee.
