Mcafee letting viruses straight through?

April 17th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I just asked a question about mcafee security center not working and finding no threats, in one of the answers, someone suggested that I put my computer in safe mode and then scan Mcafee. I put it in safe mode, clicked on Mcafee and as soon as it opened up in the window it said all this stuff like "Your computers real time protection is disabled", "Your computers spyware scanning is disabled", "Email and IM protection is off", and all this other stuff even though when in normal mode, Mcafee says that everything is fine. And when I clicked fix, it said it cant fix because of an error or something. What has happened? Do I have viruses or spyware or malware or trojans? Please help

chill little buddy..! nothing to be worried about, sum how all you have done is made all the important settings disabled on to your system during start up. My best bet is that just reinstall the McAfee and i am sure things will get back to normal, as for your worry of viruses wen you reinstall the software it would do a preliminart scan of your system and wil clear it if it finds any. Also not to worry of the safe mode virus protection disabling as in safe mode normally no start up services are made to run not even those of an anti-virus..so its showing you the right thing.! hope this helps..

Your Macafee Security has been compromised and is corrupt. The virus that affects your system attaches a program that when the virus scan is run it gives you a false report. One thing I can suggest is turn off your system restore then re-boot. Run the scan again and you should be able to catch the virus. Once you done this then You should be able to get rid of the virus. Then reboot your system again. This time when it turns on, re-activate the system restore, and re-boot once more. You will run the scan once more and it should show all is running o.k. The virus hides in your system restore files. Once you turn off your system restore and then turn it back on, all the files are deleted. You will start a new date of system restore with the current date as your first day. The other thing you could try is to get a current copy of NORTON and run the scan from the disc. don't load it onto the system until it has run a scan and it can remove the virus because it is not corrupt. GOOD LUCK

Use some other software. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Spybot, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info
