I have a Dell laptop with Windows Vista and McAfee anti-virus software. Until recently, I've never really had any problems with this operating system and anti-virus software. However, since I've come home from school, my McAfee has begun to pop up saying my computer isn't fully protected. When I open the security center, it says my real time virus scanning, etc, etc is disabled. I've checked for and installed all updates, but it's not helping any. Also, when I click the "Fix" button in my Security Center to fix the problems, first it takes forever and then it says it can't fix all the problems because of an error. I've gone through and tried to fix the problems manually, but it says it didn't work because of an error. It still says that my computer's not protected.
Another trend I've been seeing with my computer is that it's been freezing up for no apparent reason. It's not just programs that are freezing up; the entire computer locks up and stops working. I'm beginning to suspect that perhaps the two problems are related.
Now, I don't want a bunch of people trying to offer alternate anti-virus software. That's not what I'm looking for. What I need to know is what is causing these problems. How can I fix them?
Thanks for the help.

It seems that your computer is badly infected from the viruses, malwares and spywares.
You should follow these troubleshooting steps :–
1. Please try to delete all the internet temporary files like temp, %temp% and prefetch files.
2. Scan your computer by using any updated antivirus program.
3. Try to install and download the "Antimalwarebytes" (freely available)
4. Try to update "Antimalwarebytes".
5. Scan your computer using the "Antimalwarebytes"..
6. Follow the same procedure for "Superantispyware" as you have done for "Antimalwarebytes" (Safe Mode).

Computer freezes due to have a lot of junk files in your hard drive so clean it up by using auslogics boost speed program or just simply use the windows clean up option. to solve those problem of mcafee just run the full scan and it will solve and back you to protected this is common in mcafee once you didnt run a full scan for a long period of time then they will hold the program.
If you want to use auslogics boost speed just go to download.com and in the search bar key-in auslogics boos speed then press enter just follow the steps to continue. this is only 15 days free trial but it helps to clean up and optimize your pc. good luck
