i downloaded mcafee from a dell disc that came with my pc. i just received an email saying i have to renew it. what does this mean? and what if i dont renew it?
if i bought the actual mcafee disc would i have to deal with these subscriptions. because i notice i have to pay for these renewals. and thats like ridiculous how i have to pay to renew it. so do i need to buy the actual disc?

It is a subscription. It's like a magazine, to keep it going you have to renew it. What that does is keep you getting the updates. The updates are very important because there are new viruses out every day. Having the disc does you no good cause a disk cannot update itself. Now, if you don't care if you have a virus scanner or not, then just don't get it renewed.

You buy McAfee with a years subscription when that runs out you have to pay for another years subscription otherwise you can no longer update it.
