McAfee wants me to remove Spy Sweeper but I can't find it?

May 31st, 2009 · 3 Comments

I have Windows XP and I'm trying to download McAfee. But it stops with a message saying that I have to remove Webroot Spy Sweeper. So I went to Add or Remove Programs, but Webroot Spy Sweeper isn't listed on the programs. I tried to search for it, but I just don't have Spy Sweeper on my computer.

On the McAfee download I can't progress until I remove the program, so now I can't download it because I need to remove a program that I don't even have.

How can I get past this conflict?

Go to your Local Disk>All Programs> And look for that program, and delete it…

check the folders in the program files then delete it

if you find it there then you will have to do a registry cleanup.

if it's NOT there then you are probably trying to download web crap from a fake website.

Matt you can try Ccleaner, get it from download.com Run the Analyze, then Run Cleaner. After that click on Registry and click on scan for issues. Then click Fix selected issues. Make sure you take the option to Back up changes. If this does not work. You may have to download Webroot Spy Sweeper, and install it. Then turn off protection. Then go to add and remove programs and uninstall it. It must have been on your computer before, and you got a bad uninstall, so part of it remain on your computer.
