Ok so 3 days ago my microphone was recording very good in windows xp. but then i got a virus from some website so i had to reinstall windows xp. when i finished installing windows xp i installed all the drivers needed. but the microphone doesnt want to record now. i check microphone in the sound properties and it is not muted. and i reinstalled windows xp all over again and installed the drivers but still doesnt record. my sound card can record sounds inside the computer and i can listen to music so i guess its not messed up. please help? thnx

why don’t you your microphone whether its working perfectly or not , may be it has malfunctioned

OK the stupid answers are all I can think of did you check that you have the mic plugged into the mic jack not the line in, next would be did you open the mixer doudle click on the speaker next to the clock goto options and properties and check the box for microphone to make sure it added and make sure the mic volume is up. Did you open up the mixer and goto advanced button under the mic and set it to boost the mic. Other than that you don’t have 2 sound cards installed right like an integrated one on the mobo or one on a modem and an add in card if you do you, may want to goto the device manager and set it to map only through the one your using and make sure all the drivers are loaded. other than that try a different mic. sorry.
