So I want to be a beta tester for Microsoft's free anti-malware solution called Microsoft Security Essentials. This software does not have a firewall, but i do have an expired version of Mcafee Security Suite which i had been using for protection against threats. When i do install Microsoft Security Essentials, it is suggested that i uninstall any existing antivirus product. Can I disable Mcafee Security suite but still use it's firewall? or should i completely uninstall it and use a third party firewall instead?

You would be better off just uninstalling Mcafee. You can turn off the anti-virus part of Mcafee but that does not turn everything off. You will still have some security processes running.

Just turn your Windows Firewall on. Its adequate enough. Besides if you are behind a NAT router (or an ISP supplied "modem"), like most people are, you already have a better built-in firewall than any software one against incoming attacks.

Microsofts new program is being officially released next week I understand as freeware.
Use the microsoft firewall you already have or download the commodore free one from download.com
You might also want to down load Malwarebytes free anti spy ware from download .com. You can have 2 anti spyware apps & that is all this does so it does it very well.
Have Fun.
