my windows xp media center edition has a missing file and its name is system321hal.dll it is located at c:/system/system32/ on the hard drive the computer itself will start up but the os will not boot without the file i contacted microsoft and they gave me directions of how to fix it. in microsoft recovery console it asks me what recovery console i want to use and i use h:/i386 i than type in del c:/boot.ini to delete the folder the file is in so the repairing scan will replace it but it says access denied now i have never put i single password on the administer account or any account except one but that account is long gone how to i get around the access denied?
than is there any way i can transfer my data to another computer? also i cant access any of the windows programs or files

make sure you're logged in to the main administrator account.. if that isn't the problem you'll probably have to contact microsoft about it again..
