I had a virus on my computer so i get the reprograming cd thing or rebooting what ever its called, when i was done it said missing or corrupt <windows root>\system32\hal.dll. please install, can anyone help?

You might want to try a Windows XP "repair install", assuming you’re running XP. Check out the site below for details.

Basically this will let you completely reinstall Windows but leave much of your user-specific files and programs intact.
