I was just wondering if anyone knows how strong the built in antivirus is in the new firefox. i notice it scans all my files after download, but have yet to have detected anything. i often go to cracksites and download stuffs like that which is notorious for that junk, and nothing.
i just want to know how much this antivirus is helping and if it can detect other things like trojans adaware spyware, etc.
i used to have a few antivirus's but as a performance nut i hate having them take up my background resources.
is there an antivirus out there that you can set to only run and scan when YOU want it to?

I used to have just the built in antivirus and noticed that my pv got slow very quickly. I’d recommend McAffee.

Firefox only uses your existing AV to scan downloaded files and exes. Any results are dependent on that. You're right, cracked apps are a pretty quick way to get infected with something. Even then your AV or antispyware should catch them as 'false positives.' A keygen, by it's nature is a backdoor trojan.
Damn near everything on my PC is cracked or free, but I make sure I get them from reputable sites or off mates that can vouch for them. Even my OS is a freebie! I guess the question you really need to ask yourself is; How good is my anti-virus and anti-spyware?
I use ZoneLabs AV and have it set to manual for updates and scans. I hate them butting in when I'm busy! I had Avira (free) installed on a friend's Vista laptop and set that up for manual downloads and scans too.

Its not a anti-virus in that sense. Get a real scanner or risk infection. Considering what you said you do… chances are you already have some nasties running amok on your computer. Get AVG-Free at least.
