I have them turned on. They download and then they just don't install. I end up getting a message saying "The following updates were not installed: *insert list of updates here.*" My Windows firewall also won't work. Gives me some error when I try to turn it on. Also, my McAfee firewall doesn't want to work either. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can't have 2 firewalls operating at the same time on a PC. They kind of cancel each other out & you end up with no protecting firewall. You need to turn off the windows firewall if you are using Mcafee firewall. You may need to reinstall the Mcafee firewall. This may be why the updates won't install also.
It would be wise to do a scan of your PC with antivirus software.
