I have a compaq R100 LAPTOP that my dad bought back from Iraq a few months ago when he was visiting. And after a while it stopped working so we had to buy a whole new charger and that worked for a while then it stopped working again. it would never come on until a few days ago. But now the problem is when I turn it on, it'll start normally and then this blue screen comes up and says windows has been shut down. Unammountable boot volume. whatever that means I dont know to fix it. I dont have a disk for the computer, just the comp and a charger…. Can SOMEONE, ANYONE PLZ HELP ME TO FIX THIS STEP BY STEP! SOMETHING. IM NOT LOOKING TO SPEND ANYMORE MONEY!

Your core files are corrupt. It is a relatively easy fix but you will need a startup (Your operating system install disk). You need to go into the console to repair the boot volume. at the prompt, you will need to type in fixboot. That should do it.

Before Windows starts to load, when the Compaq logo comes up, does your computer say something like "F11 for System Recovery"? If it does, that means you can restore your computer to its original state. Unfortunately, that means all of your data will be lost. If you have all of your music on your iPod, you are in luck, because there is a nice utility called "SharePod" (Just Google it) that will let you copy music off of your iPod (you highlight the songs you want and click on copy to computer. You have to change the directory you want to save your music to. Change it to something simple, like C:\Music, or something. If your computer does not have this option, or you NEED to keep your data, you can borrow somebody's Windows disc to repair your Windows installation. Make sure it's the right edition. (e.g., if the computer had Windows XP Professional, you need a Windows XP Professional disc. You cannot use a Windows XP Home or Media Center Edition disc. It doesn't matter with Windows Vista though, since all the editions are on the same disc.) With Windows Vista, the process is much easier. You just start up the computer, and when the Compaq logo appears, immediately put the disc in and close the tray. Boot from the DVD and there should be an option to repair the Windows installation, just follow the prompt. If you have Windows XP, you boot off of the CD and go like you are installing (DON'T GO TO THE RECOVERY THING WHEN THE INSTALLER FIRST STARTS, THAT'S NOT THE RIGHT THING). There will be a thing that will be like "Repair your Windows installation." http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
