My computer has 2G RAM and it is SUPER slow. Especially on games?

September 8th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Ok. I bought this computer in November. It is a HP Pavilion a6198d Home PC.
Intel Core 2 DUo Processor E6600
1024 MB DDR2
500GB 3G Hard drive
NVIDIA GeForce 7500LE
SuperMulti Drive with LightScribe technology

I started mapling on it till December when I got bored. Everything was fine. Even I started Rakion, Gunbound, GetAmped, Cabal, Audition, everything was ok too, even in June. However, sometime in early July, For about 2 weeks, my computer started to slow down and was unable to shut down. Then, it shut down unexpectedly. But from then on, it was never the same. For a 2G RAM computer, my settings for games had to be changed. For example, Facebook bowling buddies, I had to put the settings to “slow PC”. For maple, the lag was unbearable and I kept disconnecting, and etc..

I have tried system restore, CCleaner, System Mechanic, Avast anitvirus, Norton antivirus, McAfee antivirus but to no avail, I could not get my original speed back. Has anyone encountered the same problems and rectified it? Does anyone have solutions? All replies appreciated =)
Oo…. I only have 1G RAM? Gee…. but maple only needs like 256MB RAM… stilll doesn't explain the lag
How do you back up files? You mean like reformat my comp?
ok…I have just run the norton virus scan, and removed 1 cookie =)

According to your system specs, you only have 1 gig of ram.

try maybe freeing up some space on your C drive because the less space you have left on your C drive the slower the pc runs if you have another partition on your hdd such as D or something try moving some files there from the C drive to make the pc faster and maybe you have a virus

Steps for making your computer faster:
      1. uninstall any software you dont use regularly. Make sure you have as much free space on HD as - at least 20% free at all times.
      2. if you have a lot of fonts you dont use (over 400) delete some, too many fonts can significantly slow down your machine
      3. edit your startups: XP: start -> run -> msconfig-> startups. VISTA: Start -> search-> msconfig -> startups. Use the list at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups to determine what can be safely removed. bear in mind that the results are case-sensitive so you need to match the capitalisation of the results from msconfig
      4. look in your system tray and check to see if there is anything running you dont need. If there’s anything there you can dispense with, edit its prefs by right clicking and telling it not to start when windws starts.
      5. run http://www.glaryutilities.com/gu.html and tell it to fix registry issues
      6. Make sure your windows installation is up to date from windowsupdate.com
      7. run an antispyware scan. Superantispyware is very good, as is windows defender.
      8. run an online virus scan to compliment the scanner you have on your machine. There is no virus detection software that has 100% detection rate. Its a good practice to do this periodically and to make sure your installed scanner is up to date.

      9. defrag: XP: start -> programs -> accessories-> system tools-> disk defragmenter
      10. right click your drives, properties ->tools-> error checking -> fix errors [reboot]

There is no ‘magic solution’ to a slow pc. The trick is regular maintenance and sensible use. Running too much software concurrently and irregular maintenance of your file system are usually the two main culprits.

      Hope this helps. Happy computing…

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause “computer slow”.
Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you’ve installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it’s Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!
There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.
