OK 1st i would do is to use a program called "CCleaner"
install and run to clean all the garbage off ya come.
2nd, go into start>run>type "msconfig" and on start up tab.
UNcheck all that you dont nesseraily need to run to start up, please leave programs that you are unsure of , as it may jepordise your comp. programs such as (msn, Steam , itunes) should be unchecked.
Should be considerably fast after this

I would recommend using Advanced System Optimiser available here;
http://www.systweak.com/aso/default.asp
It has a number of helpful tools such as; system and disk cleaner, registry cleaner and fixer, memory optimiser and other defrag and analysing software. Hope it helps

try defraging your hard drive. this might help. you should find it somewhere under the start button. note: defrag may take a long while.
also, software like tune up utilities help keep computer running smooth.
