My computer is 9gb (very small). It goes so slow I have 3gb left. I tried increasing performance it went like 10% faster. Whenever Im on the internet It freezes when I don’t move the mouse for 2 minutes is there a way that I can increase the speed, increase internet speed too, and increase memory (without buying anything expensive). Help please

Buying somemore ram may cost you from $50 onwards and will increase the speed the more you pay. it sounds like a dodgy computer, i would save up and buy a new one.

I think you could do it by backing up your data and formatting the hard drive reinstalling windows.
Other then that, there is no way to increase the speed, internet, memory without buying stuff really expensive

run virus scan, Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmenter

You can make sure that you have only the necessary programs running in your start menu. Go to Run and type in msconfig and look in the start menu. Almost everything these days that is installed runs on the background so it can be called up quick but it takes resources. I would also make sure that you got rid of any unnecessary programs that you never use to free up some space through the control panel. You may find junk there you never use. Lastly I would clean the registry. There are free apps out there from downloads.com, I have used Abexo before and it sped things up for me. In terms of internet speed that is another animal but if you streamline your system if will run better.

To speed up your computer and free up space and memory for free:
Go to the Start Menu> Run
Type in “appwiz.cpl”
Uninstall whatever you don’t need.
Next, go to Start> Run and type in “msconfig”.
Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck everything you don’t want to startup. If you want, you can uncheck everything, and your anti-virus will still restart itself when you log on.
Now go to My Computer> Hard Drive> Documents and Settings> [USER NAME]> Local Settings> and delete everything inside the Temp Folder. (This is a hidden folder so you will need to have “show hidden files and folders” checked in Folder Options) All the files in this folder are just temporary files that your Internet stored for certain websites.
Next, you should install CCleaner; it will get rid of alot of temporary files on your computer. It also has a registry repair system, which is easily the best free one available on the Internet:

Another option is to try defragmenting your computer.
Go to the Start Menu and go to All Programs
Go to Accessories and System Tools.
Choose Disk Defragmenter and when it loads click defragment.
Next, go to Device Manger (Start> RightClick My Computer> Properties> Hardware Tab> Device Manager) and expand all listings. Now rightclick and update all drivers.
Another thing I would say is to compress your files if you already haven’t.
Open My Computer and right click on your hard drive
Check the Compress Drive button and let it do its thing.
Finally, make sure your Hard Drive doesn’t have any bad sectors. Go to My Computer> Right Click Hard Drive> Properties> Tools Tab> Check Now> Check both boxes and Start. It will ask you to reboot, so reboot. This will clear out any bad sectors on your Hard Drive.
These are short-term solutions however. The easiest way is to just upgrade the RAM on your system, but at least the ways above are free.
Good Luck =]

ok, when you say 9gb that is a storage number so I assume you are talking about your hard drive. Judging by the storage amount I would say you are running windows 95 or still 3.11 or maybe 98. To be honest with you I’m sure you can buy a faster processor for the computer (CPU) that’s what gives you more speed and add more RAM so your computer will load faster but in this day and age that is really not worth it. It will be a cheaper solution and a better way for you to just purchase a new workstation or even a used one. You can look in your local yellow pages for computer recycling or used computer and I’m sure you will find one. I have a store next to me where I can buy a use workstation for $99 this will get me 1.8Ghz processor 160Gb of storage 512ram and comes with windows XP home ed. Good luck but something that old is not worth updating.
