ok so a week ago my avast anti-virus expired.. and there were a few days where I didn't have any antivirus.. I mean I didn't get a new one and I didn't buy avast… usually my bro deals with stuff like this but he lives in boston now so… i'm on my own.
i downloaded AVG 7.5 and Spybot Search and Destroy. So I put AVG on Full Computer Scan twice and Spybot on search and destroy. It found some infected files and I clicked the button to fix them… and the next time I ran search and destroy there weren't any problems
but the computer still lags. It freezes 1-2 times ever 5 minutes for 2-3 minutes… But why.. I ran the virus check and I dealt with them… I doubt the problem to be cause of a slow computer because before that (when I had avast working) I had no problems
what should I do…? my computer is 256+256 RAM, 1.7k GHZ… I got enought free space on my HDD's… I don't run a lot of programs. Just MSN and Mozilla…
what do I do to fix it

1.7 is kind of slow these days, an average comoputer's speed is GhZ 2.0 ranging to 2.39. Putting that aside,
You said your computer runs smooth before. You should have at least 7 GB of free space. Another very useful thing is Disk Cleanup and Disk Fragmenting.
Disk Cleanup deletes unnecessary files on your computer, alot of it. It destroys temporary internet files, cookies, and alot of files that were left by deleted games, etc. Disk cleanup is usually located in…
Start> All Programs> Accessories>System Tools.
[Same With disk defrag]
I recommend using this. I've cleared about 5 GB off useles stuff with this. I don't know what disk defragmenter does, but
i've used it also and it has some good outcomes.
If that doesn't work, you may have to reinstall windows or do a computer format. I had this problem about 5 years ago, and had to re-install everything for it to be not slow again. Hope this helps.

Add more RAM and stop those services in the service control panel that you do not use. It will free more resources for windows. There are other free anti-virus program better than AVG. Try some of those.
