I am not very computer savvy. I have Norton anti virus protection but my computer goes so slowly that it stops for a long time. Sometime it freezes and I can’t even use it. It is a Gateway about 5 yrs. old. I have DSL but it is so frustrating to want to use it and it not be working or so slow that I get tired of trying. If anyone knows how to help me, please make your answer as clearly as possible. I don’t understand the computer lingo. Thank you soo much.

Uninstall Norton. It’s a piece of crap that uses way too much resources. Then go on http://www.google.com and search for Avast! It provides protection like Norton, but it is free and it won’t screw up your computer.
Also, you may have a virus/spyware slowing your PC down that Norton can’t detect. Run Avast! to clear it away. Also, try using Spybot search and destroy (can be found on google), and adaware SE personal (also on google, and also free). These tools will rid your PC of all the nasty bugs. Also, try buying more RAM. This will help speed up the time it takes to open programs. You can bring your computer to best buy or call up geek squad or bring it to PC shop, and tell them to do it for you.

Get rid of norton and download AVG 8.0 Free & ad-aware both off of Cnet. Avg protects far better than Norton. I had norton and after i got AVG Free I found out that i had over 100 Viruses that norton didnt even detect! Ad-aware is the best scanner ive come accross.

you need to clean house a bit. click start and accessories then system tools now click disk clean-up. if you have never done this it will take awhile, make sure all boxes are checked. when this is done click start, accessories, system tools again and run defrag, do this even it says it doesn’t need it. now go to cnet.com and download ad-aware free from lavasoft. then update it and run it.

First off uninstall Norton and replace it with AVG or Spybot. Secondly it might not be viruses, maybe you need a registry cleaner(cleans the hard drive of junk). I recommend downloading Advance WindowsCare or GlaryUtilities
