I've got this computer for Christmas a long time ago but i never put internet on it. I finally put Internet on it about 4 days ago. At first the Internet was really fast, but over the past couple of days it keeps on getting slower and slower. I have downloaded a lot of stuff from the internet, but not enough to affect my memory on the computer. I've scanned my computer with McAffe for Viruses and it scanned my hole computer but it didn't find anything. Someone clear (i forgot the way he said it) the whole computer and start all over but i dont know how to do it. What could be wrong with my computer, and what can i do to make it better? Please be specific because i know NOTHING about computers.. Thank you ![]()

Most computer slow downs are because of spyware, which McAfee will not detect. So the answer is usually to do a full system clean up.
I use these programs to clean friends computers.
Just for the record, I have no connection to any of these companies.
I just think they make good, free, and effective products.

It's inevitable. It's known to some as "winrot", Windows inherent ability to become unstable after a period of time. I've always suggested to Windows users that they re-install Windows about every three months. I always did so when I was a PC user. It kept my machine running smooth, but it was as real pain in the ass to back up everything every three months.
If you're tired of this, switch to Mac. That's what I did. Three years and no slow-downs or any other kind of problems.

You may need to remove spyware. In general, you need a full internet security suite for the best and cheapest results.
You also can do a number of things to speed up your computer.
Review these articles for what you need.

In addition to all the great freeware programs already mentioned, get a couple of Registry cleaners, which delete useless entries. I use and would recommend RegScrub and Wise Registry Cleaner. Just Google those names to get the URL so you can download and install them.
The other thing to check is to go to Start-Run and type in msconfig, then Enter. You will get a Windows Utility with a number of tabs, select the Startup tab. That will give you a list of programs that automatically load and run whenever you start your computer. Some of them are probably not necessary, so make a list of them and ask a computer-savvy friend (or even a techie at a computer store) which ones you could safely uncheck to help speed up your computer.
And don't forget Windows Defrag in the Accessories folder (Start - All Programs - Accessories), which tidies up the file arrangement on the hard drive to make files and folders easier to access. You should run it every two months or so.

1) to remove and clean ur temp files, use system mechanic software, its an excellent software to boost ur system.
2)to remove unwanted startup programs,go to start>run>msconfig>startup and uncheck the unnecessary programs, ok it and restart ur sys.

If you had the pc for a long time i would suggest a format make sure you backup all the data or else you ll lose it. It s probably a virus or something or you ve reached the download limit but that shouldn t affect your pc.
