When i try to watch a video or edit a video my computer runs extremely slow. The video doesn’t start and the editor freezes. I’ve tried different video editors and different media players but all respond in the same way. This problem started after formatted my hdd, installed a new motherboard, installed new RAM and re-installed windows xp professional.
Here are my specs:
1024mb ddr 400 RAM
2.2Ghz AMD athlon XP 2800+
Windows XP professional service pack 3
nvidia Geforce 6200LE 256mb
The graphics card supports video editing applications.
I’ve tried re-installing old drivers and updating new drivers
Any responses would be strongly appreciated.

Windows XP can literally run with only about 8 processes running. Can you tell me how many processes you see listed when you press CTRL + ALT+ DEL and go to processes tab?
If you tell me how many processes you have running, I will be glad to list what I have as a working minimum.

Check your internet downloads. Internet is very slow in this case.
Also check your RAM and check how much space you have left

Things you need to look at are how much memory your computer has left as this can play in a huge factor to slow performance. Applications running in the backround can mess things up to. When you reformatted your computer did you Delete the Disc Partition that Windows was previously installed on?
Anyway You could run some memory test’s to make sure that your RAM is still working properly. All Ram is under lifetime warranty, just call the manufacturer but i doubt its that.
So go ahead and do this. Go to START\RUN type in msconfig
go in your startup tab and disable all the boxes that are checked in. Apply and it will tell you to restart your computer. This will disable anything that tries to run while your computer starts. You dont need these programs to run because if you wanted them to run you could click on them yourself, for example. AIM…
Anyway i hope this helps, when your computer starts up it will say System Configuration Utility has been changed, check dont show this message again and your all done.
Also, You should run a Disc Defragment, this will help a whole bunch. Start\programs\accessory\system tools there you will Find Disc Defragment and Disc Clean up, run both of those. Disc clean up when you run it make sure all the boxes are checked in. Greatly improve system performance. Hope this helps.

1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type “msconfig.exe”
4. In the “system configuration utility”,click either “service” or “startup” tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click “OK”
Other great tip is increasing your virtual memory to simulate more RAM. This will give you a bit more resources for multiple program use or CPU heavy programs. Check the link to alter your virtual memory spec.
