it sounds like the memory may be bad, or you don’t have enough in it. I would definitely check the memory.

try to restore our computer system. If it is still slow, contact dell support.

Vague question so not much to work with, but here’s a few things that could be happening:
A) You have a virus that McAfee hasn’t been able to detect.
B) Your hard drive is failing.
C) Your RAM is failing.
D) You just divided by zero.
Open-ended problems like these are better resolved at a place where someone can take your computer and get a look at it, rather than being given typed-out ball-park advice over the internet. I highly recommend a check-up at your local Geek Squad (in Best Buy) or wherever.

I had a brand new laptop from HP that I installed a brand new HP all-in-one printer on. Whenever I booted up, some service that the printer installed would consume 50% processor power all the time. Lucky it was a dual core, because it was using 100% of one core, so I was still able to use the laptop. I had to disable the offending service to fix the problem. The only thing the service did was watch to see if the IP addr changed of the printer. I set it static so it wouldn’t. Good job making your own products work together HP.
I used the program process explorer to find that the one service / program was using 50%.

Clean out unnecessary and unused programs and file, especially those on the screen. Then check the memory. Don“t forget to apply a good scanner and your computer should be up and running faster. Use the scanner two or three times in a week to keep a high maintainers culture going. Good luck.

take care…
pls check out your cpu temperature form the setup of your pc
if it goes higher than 60^c check your cpu fan if it works good
if not temp.. check your hard for bad sectors
if not your hard reinstall your windows system
finally if not all … go to dell

You should upgrade the RAM. Or change the Windows Vista, I suggest Ubuntu 7.04. Its run fast in my old laptop.
