My Computer/Internet are Running Very Slow?

For some unknown reason, my computer has been acting up every so often. It happens like once a month and I have no idea whats going on. My internet and computer/programs all run slow and when I shut down my computer, I no longer have the option to use stand by (Windows). I virus scanned my computer with AVG, Windows Bit Defender, and Ad-Aware and none of them found a virus. What could be causing my computer to run so slow?
