May 4th, 2008 · 8 Comments

I have a windows xp proffesional system with a 256mb ram of memory.
Now my computer is getting slower.
I thaught first that it was the cookies or temporary internet files.
But they are all clear also i have defragmented my harddrive but it still gets slower,
Is their anyway to speed up my pc without adding hardware?

Drop it from a high window. It will go very fast, but only for a short time.

But seriously, check for viruses or spyware. Computers don't just get slower with time.

try disk clean up and disk defragment both work really good but if your using it first time it will be a long time maybe 3 hours

Remove unwanted boot apps and services

Hold Windows Key and press "r"
      msconfig

Click services tab. Check "Hide all Microsoft Services". Uncheck unwanted services.

Click Startup tab. Uncheck unwanted Startup programs.
      Click OK. Don't restart yet.

Uninistall bloatware AV suite like Norton and McCafee. Then restart.

Install lean AV suite like NOD32 (not free). Avira is best free but only Virus protection. AVG 8.0 is good but bad on systems with less than 1GB RAM.

Try Spyware Terminator and install the Clam Virus Shield from the UI. It is the best lean and free all in one realtime Virus Spyware right now.

Or get Avira and Spyware terminator, but then you use more RAM.

Also try a Registry Defrag with this free tool

      Clean Registry first with CCleaner
      http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Auslogic makes a free good Disk Defrag too if you don't like MS defrag.

Yes, where there is will there is a way. You only cleaned the part of you junks in your computer. The thorough cleaning is needed. If you just want the text information from the Internet, try disabling the view of all those multimedia files. Furthermore check your virtue memory, resizing your page file may improve a little bit. The last but not the least review all your background services, shut down those you reckon as useless.

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

      2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

      1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
      2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".
      3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.
      4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.
      5. Click OK.

      3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

      1. Open your Start menu.
      2. Click Run
      3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
      4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
      5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
      6. Click "OK"

Other great tip is increasing your virtual memory to simulate more RAM. This will give you a bit more resources for multiple program use or CPU heavy programs.
Hope this link helps. Shows you how to do everything step by step. You should get a least 60-120% more resources and speed
      if you follow the tips.

      Dear
My solution can help you to speed up PC, to make the system run faster and more stable, and to make more disk spaces. You will never have the idea that you update your PC or reinstall the system. It can save you money for hardware upgrades.
1.You should often clean up temporary files folder.
This is because that several different applications will produce some temporary files by using the Windows. When you always surfing on the Internet, you might have frequently found the system disk got smaller and smaller in capacity. The system will save some temporary files in System disk after you visit the web page.If you don’t clean up temporary files folder in time, the disk space will be occupied by these temporary files and the speed will be dropped. What is more important is that a lot of virus and malicious procedures producing in the temporary files cause your systems to stop working.

      2. To clean the valueless data in the registry
you can open the registry by entering "regedit" in Run menu from Start Menu of windows. You can make our system and your software more human by editing the registry. However, there are some great disadvantages in the registry. Security of WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI that are the configuration procedures of the registry is not high and restricted by the size. That is, once your computer installed a lot of software, the registry was full, causing the speed of the system to slow. If you are a fan of net work, when you browse the network, hackers will change your registry and ultimately can control your computer or steal your important documents by making use of the character that the registry has low security.

If you don’t know the specific location where files should be cleaned up in, and are worried to delete system files by mistake, which makes the system impossible to operate normally.Don’t worry, I can supply you several optimization software. Maybe you don’t think the optimization software can help you out of distress. But they are your right arms. They can clean temporary files and the registry and your privacy, increases your PC speed.Well adapted to computer users at different competence levels. You can click the website http://computer-optimize.com/ to find the satisfied software

I wish my solution could help you.
      Good luck
