My Hal.dll file is missing and I have no boot/recovery disk.?

November 16th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Whenever I attempt to boot my Windows XP Media Center Edition I get an telling me my Hal.dll is missing or corrupted and won’t load Windows. My HP Pavillion did not come with any recovery disk. I have the option to totally uninstall and reinstall Windows again. I don’t want to do that because I have important files on my computer.

You can do a repair resintall of windows. Boot off the cd. After you hit F8 for the EULA it should do a scan for previous version of Windows, when it finds one hit R for repair. This will look like windows is installing. It is re-installing missing files…You may have to load drivers by hitting F6, check with your motherboard manual
