I have an IP address confirmed, and applications like AIM and Limewire connect fine. It's running XP with internet explorer 7, and I also tried the latest version of firefox.
It seems like only web browsers are the things that cannot connect. What's the deal? I must be obtaining DNS and all that other stuff fine if i can connect to AIM. There is definetly a live internet connection if that works. Then why is IE or Firefox not connecting? I've tried resetting their settings, and still nothing.
I can't access the routers settings because I have verizon fios and the router/modem that they supply has crazy settings that I cant mess with without contacting them or getting their help. It works fine for all the other computers in my house. It doesnt drop the ISP username and address because it keeps a steady connection with AIM and other programs that use the internet. It just wont go with any web browsers for some reason.
Firewall is disabled on the laptop. http should be enabled on the router.

You can connect to your home network and still not be able to connect to the internet. It sounds like your router lost your ISP username and password. Run your router's set up wizard again. You should be able to access it through internet explorer even though you can't get internet access. The routers address is different for different brands but the most common addresses are:
192.168.1.1
192.168.0.1
192.168.2.1
type one these into your explorers address bar and see if you can get access to your router to run the setup wizard. If not look at your routers user guide to find the address, or contact the company that manufactured it.

Under Internet Options/Connections, there is a button for LAN settings. Is it setup to automatically to detect settings? If not, turn that on. Also do you have http not allowed on the router? Check and make sure that HTTP is allowed. Is there a firewall on your laptop? Is your home network in the trusted zone?
