My laptop monitor, when turned on, looks like a barcode of colors. if the screen is twisted a lot at the top it will work. the computer part works fine when connected to a desktop monitor. where can it be fixed and for about how much. my dad says it probably needs a whole new monitor.

You might try and fix it yourself IF you feel comfortable with minor dis-assembly. If not most towns have a local computer guy that will do that sort of thing. It is possible if you don’t actually see the screen damaged that it is a loose cable and could be a simple fix. The cable plugs in to the motherboard adn then again into the LCD, from what your telling me I would guess it is likely the cable might be loose where it connects to the LCD. To get there might be a bit hairy according to what laptop you have.

DUDE! Stop twisiting it before you break it.
You could try to get it open and check the cables that run to the LCD panel. Many times they run up the backside of the panel or plug into the sides of it.
They could just be loose.
If the LCD panel needs replacing, they are NOT cheap.
Sounds like loose plug, because the "twisting" makes it work.
