My Mac OSX shut down unexpectedly; recover files?

I was working in microsoft word when my mac osx shut down all of a sudden, and i lost a large portion of the files that i’m pretty sure i saved. Is there ANY way to recover the data? PLEASE help

      Usually Microsoft word makes a backup of the file every few minutes in case a problem like this occurs. If you reopen word you should get a pop box that say if you want to revert to the last spot you were at before the problem. You may or may not get all of the stuff back since word may have not saved it right before the laptop turned off, or by luck it did.
