My MCafee anti-virus has detected 16 items. What should I do?

January 10th, 2009 · 6 Comments

My mcafee anti-virus run a scanned and detected 16 items. Then it said that it quarantined them. I thought it was suppose to delete them, but there was not delete button, so I could do it manually. furthermore, I turned off the computer. Now, I am worried about this 16 items. What should I do? how can I delete them? I am in a very tight budget and I do not trust free on-line anti-virus.

Additional details: Mcafee is the only anti-virus system I have. I do not have any other security systems. I have att high speed internet, but I access it through a wireless connection because there not phone pluck in my room. Also, my computer is a lab top and it is windows xp. I use fire-fox.

      It's fine. Don't worry. They're safe when they're quarantined.

Do not worry if the viruses are in quarantie they are disabled and cannot possible do you any damage. You could keep them in quarantie but since mcafee has a very low amount false positives, you could also remove them. What ever makes you comfortable.

You should also have spyware/malware/adware scans. These all scan for different things.

Download, install and update and scan with the following free:

Spybot Search & Destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org

      Ad-Aware 2008 Free from http://www.lavasoft.com

SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition from http://www.superantispyware.com or http://www.download.com

      Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware…
Valid downloads of Malwarebytes only come from these sites:
      http://www.download.com
      http://www.majorgeeks.com
      http://projects.securitywonks.net

If all else fails I suggest you register with the Spybot Search & Destroy Forums and post your problem in the Malware Removal Forum… they are excellent at talking people through the process of cleaning their computers. http://forums.spybot.info/

      heres wat you can do
1.look at the key and the product of mcafee(could be total security, antivirus, internet security)
      2. copy the key
      3. uninstall mcafee
      4. go to kaspersky.com
      5. download kaspersky internet security 30 trial
      6. install kaspersky internet security
      7. run deep scan
      8. neutralize all viruses, trojans found
      9. heres an option. you can choose kaspersky internet security or mcafee. My opinion, Kaspersky internet security is way better. detection rate is 98.7% i think Kaspersky is competing with eset smart security , protection is 99.8% … dude … the only side of every security product out there that can compete with kaspersky internet security 2009 is ESET SMART SECURITY's SCAN SPEED+ACCURACY

btw, i can help you get the license for KIS :D life-long-lasting

AND DONT WORRY .. MCafee has false alarms … 80% of viruses mcafee deletes are harmless

FREE PRODUCTS wont do you any good … thats y they're free … they're just to get you to buy the pay product

If you worry, then just manually empty the quarantine items, however if you want your PC to be much faster and better protected than un-install that Mccaffe crap and install Kaspersky or AWG.

HHmmmm you dont need to worry FAE those 16 was already in jail hehehe called quarantined although still alive theres still a chance they can do a jail break and escape. So if i were you shoot them all kill them just open your mcafee quarintined folder and delete those 16 on that folder.

Sounds so funny ha? but for me if my anitvirus found something fishy then they put in jail called quarantine i make it sure there totally gone and rest in peace R.I.P in my hard drive.i recommend download malwarebytes software to back up your mcafee program incase you need to register let me know i will send you a registration code my email is atlanticbreeze320@yahoo.com..Opsss those program you can get at http://www.malwarbytes.org or at http://www.download.com just retype the name at there search box then download.com will bring you there.Good Luck Fae
