My monitor has no speakers, so when I connect my game console to my sound card, will it work?

July 29th, 2008 · 1 Comment

To be more clear, my dell 24 inch widescreen monitor does not have speakers, but I want to play my Playstation 3 on it. However, not having speakers, if I buy a digital optical cable connecting from my PS3 to my internal sound card (creative X-Fi XtremeGamer) which has a digital optical input slot available, will the sounds play from the speakers connected to the same sound card?

I don't have a digital optical cable, and I could not find the info online. I was also wondering if it does happen, can I easily switch between the audio sources from the ones on my computer and the PS3, or will I have to mute the other one, in order to prevent conflict. Thanks.
I may have made it unclear. I do have speakers, (Bose Companion III [no optical input]). But no attached speakers for the monitor itself.

yes, plug it in, into the computer and if u have speakers the sound will come out there. If not, then just buy some speakers.
