My new laptop shows “limited connectivity” with Windows Vista

August 9th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I bought a new laptop and the wireless worked fine at my friends house. Now that I am home, it shows “limited connectivity” and no matter what I do, I cannot seem to change that. I have tried rebooting, disconnecting the modem etc etc. I am not a PC boffin, and need a simple solution to this ridiculous problem. I have not heard good things about vista, and my first immediate experience is not proving to be a positive one. Anyone can help?
P.S. I bought the PC in the USA., and I live on a small island, so I cannot go to a technical centre for support, as they do not exist here. I am on my one with this one (checked the laptop at my friends house before I brought it back !! And it worked!). Frustrating !

Your modem? is this dial up or DSL? did you connect it? hover over, does it still say it was “identifying”? My uncle set up a new network at my grandma’s and it took my notebook (Vista) about 1/2 an hour to identify, then it worked.
