best option more ram
2nd best option - reformat and start from scratch
3rd best option tweak what you have
Steps for making your computer faster:
1. uninstall any software you dont use regularly. Make sure you have as much free space on HD as possible and at least 20% free at all times.
2. if you have a lot of fonts you dont use (over 400) delete some, too many fonts can significantly slow down your machine
3. edit your startups: start -> run -> msconfig-> startups. Use the list at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups to determine what can be safely removed. bear in mind that the results are case-sensitive so you need to match the capitalisation of the results from msconfig with the results in the list at bleepingcomputer.com
4. look in your system tray and check to see if there is anything running you dont need. If there's anything there you can dispense with, edit its prefs by right clicking and telling it not to start when windws starts.
5. run http://www.ccleaner.com and tell it to fix registry issues
6. Make sure your windows installation is up to date from windowsupdate.com
7. run an antispyware scan. Ad-aware from lavasoft is very good, as is windows defender.
8. run an online virus scan to compliment the scanner you have on your machine. There is no virus detection software that has 100% detection rate. Its a good practice to do this periodically to make sure your installed scanner is up to date.

9. defrag: start -> programs -> accessories-> system tools-> disk defragmenter
10. right click your drives, properties ->tools-> error checking -> fix errors [reboot]
There is no 'magic solution' to a slow pc. The trick is regular maintenance and sensible use. Running too much software concurrently and irregular maintenance of your file system are the two main culprits. Another sensible approach is to use applications that are less memory and cpu intensive. For example Firefox 3 has significantly lower memory usage than IE7. This means it will generally perform faster on your pc and give other processes which are running more room to breathe. Selecting the applications you use by applying this maxim will give you much better performance on your machine.
Hope this helps. Happy computing…

Do a cleaning of your computer. Delete all temporary files, all temporary interet files.
You can also press ctrl+alt+del, press Processes tab and see what program is using much memory and CPU. Might be a problem with that process. Shut down the process that use much rescource.

First of all remove all the garbage from your comp..Use "CCLEANER" for this.Don't forget to add "c:\windows\prefetch" in the custom list.It also has a startup list, use it remove any unwanted programs at startup.
Next uninstall unwanted programs from comp.
Try Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 instead
