Trend Micro has been running great on my laptop for the past year. It doesn't seem to bog things down, and it seems to be doing it's job just fine.
It expires on my computer in a few days. Money is tight around here, and I'm not sure if I should just go for AVG Free, or cough up the $40 to renew Trend Micro.
Is there much difference between the two, like in how well they protect and how much they slow a computer down?
I'd love to hear your opinion on the matter!

AVG! i am using it. been using it for almost 2 yrs. no problem so far. the best thing i like about AVG is that it doesnt slow down the pc at all.
Avast is slightly better at picking up trojans than AVG, I have heard, due to Avast using the Kaspersky "engine".

i use norton for last 2 years works great on my systems the money is well worth always for preventive work on PCs its better to pay a little now then to get a virus or spyware on your system later costing you more or even losing your files etc.. avg is good but if TrendMicro has worked i suggest you keep using it.

actually i'd keep trend micro. it's a very good antivirus and if i had it on my computer then i'd look for a keygen online or something but that's illegal. in your case if you're tight on money then just let it expire and uninstall it. as for the new antivirus i'd go with Avast and NOT AVG

Do not pay for a renew. Waste of money. Use Avast!, AVG, or for a Comodo AV. They are all free and all great.

AVG is a great antivirus tool. It does daily updates over the internet, best of all, as you noted it's free. Go for it. And independent tests show that it is as effective or more as many of the commercial AV suites.

I think AVG is pretty reasonable. The standard settings it uses means that it doesn't bog the PC down. I have used it on many PCs for a number of years and have not found anything wrong with it.
I have not used Trend Micro tho so I can't compare them.

I do not care much for the new version of AVG - 8.0. It uses a lot of resources. I prefer Avast (free) - uses less resources and a good free virus scan. Download Avast here:
