When I open the task manager in my Windows XP computer there are several processes running that are slowing up my computer. How can I get rid of these processes that I don't need? Any help is appreciated.

Go to START>RUN…
type in msconfig
Go to the startup tab
uncheck any programs you don't want running. Click ok
When the window goes away it will ask you if you want to restart your computer with the new settings.
After you restart, you will get a message letting you know that your startup list has changed. There's a checkbox at the bottom of the popup window that says "Don't show me this again". Click it and you won't have to worry about it anymore.
Also, you can check out a free program called "hijack this". Go to http://www.hijackthis.de. It has all the information you need about cleaning out the plumbing in your computer.

try the program called PC Decrapifier from http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/. Also, you can go to start-> Run -> MSConfig and turn off one program at a time and reboot. This will take a while. You deactivate one program at a time so that you can turn it back on if it breaks something.

XP does run alot of processes that are purely windows that you really can't do anything about. The easiest approach to freeing up resources and getting rid of resource hungry processes is to check whats down in the system bar at teh right hand side of the screen.
All those programs constantly consume resources so decide what parts of the bloat you can get rid of. Examples being itunes agent, virus scanners.etc .etc.
Either disable them or uninstall the ones you want to.

Please uninstall the unnecessary programs like games. So the Processes will be reduced to 40 nearly.
Be cautious. If you uninstall any other program files like audio manager, network pro connections it will be dangerous. SO uninstall only games.
