Hi i’m British and have changed my names 5times since I was 16(long story lol), I did it legally with a deed poll everytime at my local solictors and everytime I did I had all my documents officially changed into my new name etc.
Last time I changed it again was last year for the 5th time and I changed everything again but when I was about to have it changed again on my passport to keep it up to date I realised I had lost one of the deeds to a previous name change and had no copies of it because u have to produce every single one for the passport office…
So I searched and searched then gave up and contacted the solicitors office where I had it changed 8yrs ago but they didnt remember me cos they have so much people come in I was just another face and to my surprise they kept no copies of it on their database and permenetly remove them from their system after 6months never to b recovered so I went to the ‘birth deaths and marriages’ registry and they dont keep a record of name changes either and no other place at all I asked the passport office because i’d had a previous passport in that name whose deed i lost and they don’t either, so basically there is no record of or proof that i ever changed my name yet i had a passport in that name! Anyway luckily they gave me another passport in my new name.
Isnt that somethin that only a piece of paper is what will prove u changed ur name an if u lose it theres no record of it at all!
Is it me or is that a serious matter to look into???!
