I have been using AVG Antivirus for many years now without any problems. These is the first problem I had.
I downloaded and installed yesterday Microsoft NET Framework 3.5.
And today I saw that AVG was not working. So I clicked the AVG icon to start the program but I got this message:
C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avggui.exe
The program could not start because setup parameters are false. Reinstalletion could solve this problem.
So, I uninstalled and reinstalled many times AVG but every time I got the same error.
My computer is new and doesn’t have many programs. Here is what I have:
Windows XP Pro SP3
NET Framework 3.5
Windows Installer 4.5
There is no other Antivirus or Antispyware installed, only the Windows XP Pro Firewall.
And it is set to allow AVG.
The version of AVG is:
avg_free_stf_en_8_173a1373
Please tell me what is wrong.

Try a registry repair program. You may have a simple registry conflict.

Your computer is new and therefore there should not be any very serious problems with it.
What you could do is install the trial version of TuneUp Utilities 2008.
That program has 15 different programs and it could help you solve all kind of problems.
The great thing is, that the trial period of TuneUp is 30 days, but without any limitations. After you fixes everything on your computer you can uninstall it again. Or you like the program so much, that you will buy it.
I did and no regrets
