I posted another question a few minutes ago about the easiest way to uninstall then reinstall Windows Vista OS. I'm not good at this. I have the Vista disk but someone said my system can reset to original factory settings. I saw that option somewhere but now I can't find it again. Would that be better than using the Vista OS disk? And can someone tell me what this "Window Rot" is all about. Does it start to slow down the computer with the first reinstallation of the Vista OS? I have 320 GB of hard drive. 3 GB of DDR2 Duel Channel memory (not sure what that means) and AMD Phenom 8400 (processor?)
I want to uninstall and reinstall the OS because I'm having problems with Spyware and a few hidden bugs which I have been able to nutralize for now. But I'm I risking more than it's worth? True, I have an annoying dialog box open every time I start the computer. And Spyware has broken down completely. Yet I can live with this if it means that reinstalling will slow down the computer too much.

Yes, Windows "rots". The more you use it, the less slower it goes. Reinstalling it resets your rot as you start from "fresh"
As you've also found, it gets plagues with viruses and spyware (also adding to the rot). Thats one reason why I use Linux… no rot!
Anyway, simply boot from your restore media to get back to the factory install. When asked to format, do so and everything will be wiped clean

Tony,
Realize that when you do this there will be nothing on your computer but the Vista operating system. You will then have to reload all other programs and data. Do you have all of these software disks too?
Try this. Go to the Micrisoft web site and download / install service pack 1 for Vista. Also, run disk defragmenter that can be found in the tools folder.
The last thing you want to do is reformat your disk drive and reinstall the OS, which is a major, major project that is best done by highly experienced techs.
