well, my anti-virus has expired, like 10mins ago.
i've checked the anti-virus area and it says "you are not fully protected from the latest threats. renew your subscriptions for the latest virus protection updates" and my virus definitions are all up to date.
So, can i assume that i'm currently protected? I don't have a credit card and i can't renew now, but i'm thinking of buying another one, but am i currently protected? cuz i need to send an email tommorrow.
oh wow, now i clicked "renew now" and it brought me to a renewal centre and then it says:
Your current product subscription expires on 08-May-2008.
what the heck is going on?
so that's it? i'm still protected?

you can only detect the viruses that are released before ur antivirus expiry. I mean ur antvirus is not capable of detecting the latest viruses….that means it is useles..

Yes you are still protected but you will not get any updates. The updates keep you protected from the newest viruses people make. You can download a free one if you like its called AVG. I have been using it for years and it works great.

Here is the link if you want to download it. Unistall Nortan first before you install this one though.

No updates. SO essentially no. Get AVG. Free for personal use and works great.

Don't worry about it, just download AVG Free Edition and/or Avast Free Edition and install. Then uninstall Norton.

Uninstall it and download AVG free from http://free.grisoft.com. Do NOT run the machine unless you have a fully updated virus system installed. DEFINITELY do not open any emails.

yup, you're still protected from "old" viruses but not from latest or new viruses…

you should be ok for a while
but you need to get another programme fairly soon before you get any viruses =]

Don't pay for crap. Norton is very porly written software. The enterprise corporate version isn't too bad but the home versions are rubbish. Download AVG free anti-virus and unistall your norton. Also use mozilla firefox instead of I.E.
I would also look for free online web scanners for when you download files you're not sure about. I would also scan your machine often.

Dump it entirely & get either Avast or AVG for free online.
Far better than Norton or McAfee.
Also check out Spybot, but make sure you totally Un install your expensive uneffective program first.

When my Norton gave me that message I took Norton off my computer.
I have these 3 Totally Free programs…. Avant Antivirus,
Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ad-Aware SE Personal and I don't have any problems on my Windows Vista computer, and my Windows XP computer.

This is SO common w\Nortons
Sounds like you are still protected. Re-boot if you haven't already and re-check your expiration and see if the warnings are gone.
When that expires get Trend Micro PCcillin. You wont go thru that again.
It's as good if not better, less of a resource hog and out of all the pc's if have set it up on, including mine, there has NEVER been "expire" problems, nor a virus problem.

to put it bluntly. No
your anti virus "live monitoring" will most likely now be off.
Meaning virus will not be seen as they eneter your system.
ADVICE: Don't go on any funny websites, and generally avoid the internet / downloads until you get it renewed and updated.
sending emails will be fine, just watch any dodgy ones that come in.
