I reinstalled windows vista, and now the volume icon in the bottom right says “No Audio Output Device is installed” and I have no sound. The sound worked fine before reinstalling vista. I looked in the Device Manager and went to Sound, and the drivers for the Sigma Tel device, and they are all up to date. I have no sound and it’s really annoying. I have no idea what I should do

In the Device Manager, delete the audio device. Then right-click on the Computer icon at the top of the tree and choose to scan for hardware changes.
Good luck.

right click on my computer and open properties, go to hardware tab, then open device manager. a list of devices connected to your computer will be opened. look for “other devices” in the list. it will have a “?” icon in front of it. open it and see if any sound device is included in it. if there is one, you will have to install the correct driver for your sound device. the best place to search for the driver is in a motherboard driver cd, or you can alternatively download it from internet.

1. Try to uninstall the driver from the windows application installer,
2. Then uninstall the drive/device from the device manager.
3. Restart the PC
4. Reinstall everything
NOTE: If your using a PCI/PCIe card, make sure it’s properly connected, if your using an onboard sound card, than the list above SHOULD work
