I will have my computer a year at the end of October, Its a Packard Bell Vista and I payed quiet a lot of money for. But I now know that it was worth every penny due to the fact that less than a year later I cannot imagine my life without it.
But now I have a dilemma, I use AVG free on my previous computer and I found it good I was even planning on using it for my new computer but the I was given Norton 360 free when I bought it. I have been using Norton and I have to admit I find it good my computer is still running just as well as the day I bought it and now having gotten a Norton update I have now discovered that you can store 2 GBs worth of back up with Norton themselves.
So now I don’t know what to do should I stick with Norton and buy myself a new subscription when my current one runs out or should I save myself the money and just use AVG.
Detailed answers please explaining why you think Norton or AVG is the better choice. Thanks for helping me make my decision.

Norton is terrible, especially for the money you pay for it. Not to mention, I find Norton extremely irritating and frustrating.
I have never had a problem with AVG free. It is very dependable, not to mention FREE, and very well worth it.
I’d totally go for AVG!!

I have had problems in the past with people that used Norton due to the fact that the Norton firewall automatically blocks certain things that can be un-blocked with other free firewalls like Zone Alarm. Other than that issue, I would say that of course Norton 360 will be the better choice that you will have to pay for.
I would also look at Avast! anti-virus. I have been thinking of going from AVG to Avast for a while now.

That’s a tough one. I haven’t used Norton 360 yet but I was researching it recently and found that it is not a resource-hog like the Norton packages of the past. It seems like a really good comprehensive program to keep your PC secure. The free version of AVG is a really good anti-virus but you’re not getting all of the other features that the full Norton package has. I think you’ll get more comprehensive protection from continuing your Norton subscription, but if money is tight AVG makes a really good product and you can supplement it with Adaware and Spybot for a little more coverage.

Anti-virus software that you pay for will generally always be better. AVG and other free anti-virus suites provide decent protection suitable for most people. If you have the money and feel that you need a level of protection that is a step up from free software, then go for the subscription to Norton. If, however, you're like me and you feel that your usage of the internet is mild and unadventurous enough to be protected fully by AVG, then go with the FREE stuff, woohoo!
The best things in life are free, the best anti-virus software, however, is not.
A side note: I've heard that Norton was not the best pay-service. You might want to explore your virus protection options and do some research before you make a purchase.

don't like either. Got rid of annoying Norton (used for 10 years). Discovered that Zone Alarm (used for some 6+ years) found several spyware attacks that Norton did not.
Anything that is free will rarely give full protection. Even Spybot (free) does not protect to the level such as a program like Zone Alarm.
Choose what you think is best for you.
my suggest

Norton used to have problems but recently it got a top rating from PC Magazine.
AVG or the free anti virus programs are not complete. They just handle the virus issue but there is also the issue of spyware, adware, access to your computer if you don’t have an adequate firewall, parental control and more.
Norton fulfills the requirement for a full fledged anti virus suite and is the better choice.

I haven’t tried Norton 360 yet. I had AVG free on my windows xp but when I upgraded to vista, I had to uninstall it because it had incompatibilty issues with the preloaded windows defender on vista. Why don’t you give your Norton 360 a try and give it a comparison with your experience with AVG. Anyway it came free with your pc. If you don’t like it you can always download other free edition anti-virus. Try Avira or Bitdefender 10, both of these are downloadable freewares and is compatible to vista. I heard bitdefender is the number 1 anti-virus sofware in the U.S. today.
