Norton antivirus won't allow me to run anything unless I chose "run as…"?

April 1st, 2008 · 3 Comments

I have a c-190 Vaio laptop with win xp pro, sp2 with noron antivirus. It got a Trojan virus, so I tried activating the Norton Antivirus. Afterwards, no program could be run, unless I chose "run as…" and un-checked the "protect me from …" box. Windows restore had no effect and now whenever the "run as…" option is not available, that part of the system can not be accessed. (my computer>properties, many program installations, …)

      1) Don't use Norton.

Norton has picked up explorer.exe (Start bar) as a virus before

Are you running as an administrator account. You could use runas to open a cmd prompt and from there drag any program that you need to run to the cmd window and press enter to run it.

Maybe you should try reinstalling norton and or the operating system. Or you could try going with a completely different anti virus program like the free avast antivirus.
