Ok, so I've just installed Norton Coprorate. It installed perfectly, and LiveUpdate seems to run fine- it tells me all Norton components are up to date. But I'm suspicious of this because- well, first of all, running LiveUpdate didn't take nearly as much time as it should've if it were downloading heaps of updates. Also, in the "virus definition file" box, the "version:" thing is blank. Not to mention, I searched the C drive for .xdb files, which I understand is the suffix for Norton virus definitions, and it came up blank.
So. How do I tell for sure if LiveUpdate is working, and if it's not, how do I manually download and install the virus definitions?
Um. In retrospect, you might need to know that I got this copy of Norton Corporate from a friend. It's the 2000 version that apparently his dad's company used, which is how he got it, and I installed it to run standalone on my computer, but I don't know if its sketchy origins might have anything to do with LiveUpdate being bitchy. It might be trying to connect to the server from the old company or something ridiculous like that. Anyone know how to check that?
(And if it makes you guys feel any better I'm only using this questionably legal copy for about a month until I go to college, when they will force their own AV upon me and I will pray that it's decent.)
