Yeah. You should only have one anti-virus program running. You can have as many scanners as you like to use at different times and I would recommend Spyware Blaster.
Check this site for reliable free solutions.

ps. I'd ditch Norton

Anti-viral software conflicts with just about every other anti-virus out there, because they view each other as malicious software. This is because some of their behaviors (automatic updates, running in the background, running at startup, editing registry entries) are identical to virus behaviors by necessity. Think about how the SWAT team or CIA agents have a similar skill set to criminals, like getting into places they aren't wanted.
You could download AVG, disconnect from the net, disable all of Norton (I only use the anti-virus, the suite is a greedy thing) and then install and run it, but I think that is fundamentally unnecessary and could still cause major problems.

So to remove virus go to http://www.quickheal.com & download Trail Version of Quick Heal Total Security 2008. If Norton interupt Quick Heal, then uninstall Norton as Quick Heal Total Security can provide you protection against virus & also protect you from internet threats. If you can then buy Quick Heal Total Security 2008 it's only Rs.2000 or 40$. But if you want free full version Antivirus. Then go to google download uTorrent. Then logon to http://www.torrentz.com (a torrent search engine). Then search for NOD32. You can download it without any registration or fee. But the download will be little slow!

Never use multiple installed anti-virus apps at the same time, conflicts will occur.
Why would you want to get a "second-opinion" from AVG anyway?, it's virus detection capabilities in a word…suck.
A much better solution, right now when your computer is apparently infected, is the use of on-line scanners.
Scan for virus, worms, dialers, etc. and remove (free online scan, no installed program) with BitDefender's Online Scanner. Press "Scan now" on the left.

Norton Internet Security is the problem in itself, and AVG free is rubbish.
Get http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 to remove Norton completely (remember to turn on the Windows Firewall while you have no protection), then install the following:
Avira: http://www.free-av.com/ (if you don't have anti-virus, or if you have Norton or AVG replace it with this)
Spyware Terminator (turn off web security guard): http://www.spywareterminator.com/
Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/ (use immunise feature)
Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/
Comodo: http://comodofirewall.notlong.com/ (turn off defense+ to see fewer alerts)
Update all and scan your computer, removing or quarantining what is found.
Say hello to a faster, safer computer.

Most definetely. You need to unistall Norton then Install AVG. Actually I would recommend that you uninstall both and try Avast is free and works wonderfully.
