My norton internet security says i need to run a virus definition update or norton live update or whatever its called and when i try to do that it fails every time. it says i may need to check my internet connection but my connection is fine. it says it cant connect to the norton server.

Sometimes, its better to got to Norton.com and go to Downloads, then get the latest update.
I have found that the auto updated icon link doesn’t always work
